TAMassociati, Renzo Piano and Emergency have designed a new centre of excellence in paediatric surgery in Entebbe, Uganda, about 35 km from the capital Kampala. The hospital, built on land made available by the local government, is operational since April 2021 and will receive patients from Uganda and other African countries.
The hospital is part of the African Network of Medical Excellence, launched by Emergency in 2009, and is equipped with three operating rooms, 78 inpatient beds and a training centre for young doctors and nurses.
The construction of the hospital took into account not only health and local needs, but also aesthetic harmony and environmental sustainability.
